"Because it's the truth." He's not blind or dumb, he knows what he is. A 42 year old nerd who is out of shape, has a lot of body hair (especially around a full moon) and no ambition or prospects.

"And I'm too old and fat to be a twink so that basically leaves me in the 'undesireable' bin."
