Lois contemplates for a moment, rubbing her thumb on the rim on her coffee mug. Richard seems so excited, and he probably doesn’t have anyone else to go with.
She shrugs. “Alright. Sure.”

She is correct in that he doesn't have anyone to go with him, not that would stop him. He often goes to movies alone.
"Cool, I'll get us tickets. The theatre it's playing at is really cool, it's one of those old ones with the big red curtains and shit."

“The kind where they play art house films?” Lois asks with a smile. “You really are a cinephile, aren’t you? Did you want to make your own movies?”

"Yeah just like that, but this one serves beer and popcorn." He says with a grin and then shrugs.
"I dunno if I'd call myself a cinephile, I watch a lot of shitty movies and enjoy them just as much as good ones. I just like movies."
Her question makes him pause and he shrugs again.
"Nah, making a movie is a ton of effort and I've never written anything that is good enough to warrant spending so much effort on seeing it through."

Lois shrugs. “It doesn’t have to be from the Criterion Collection for a movie to be good.”
They’re interrupted by the waitress bringing their food. Lois thanks her, then starts to dig into her pancakes.
“But you have written things before?” she asks.

Damn it.
Of course she catches that little detail, she's trained to notice little things like that and when the waitress leaves them he sighs.
"Yeaaaaaah. A couple of short stories and scripts." He almost groans, as if admitting this is painful.
